World Design & Trade (WDT) design, manufacture & distribute high fashion labels such as Diesel from their modern Head Office complex in West London.  Image is very important in these surroundings as they have regular visits from Suppliers & Customers.

As well as image, WDT are passionate about their environmental performance and security.  Some months ago, Mary Tweed, Head of Facilities, started to investigate how WDT could work on these 3 areas to the benefit of customers, staff and other key stakeholders.  Mary’s initial thoughts were to introduce a recycling scheme, however it became clear that there were few Companies that were flexible enough to accommodate the diverse range of requirements that WDT have.  Mary was recommended to Maria Del Mar Jones from PHS Datashred.

Mary comments – “We needed to implement a recycling system that catered for all of our waste streams, which includes paper, cups, bottles, cans and textiles.  We had to ensure that the system was secure, environmentally friendly and looked right in our surroundings.  PHS had significant experience with clients with similar needs so were able to understand my requirements and implement a complete solution”.

Maria explained - “When I met the Mary and assessed WDT’s requirements it seemed clear that a total solution was necessary that customers, management and staff would buy into.  It was also clear that – due to the nature of the business - the appearance of the units would have to be acceptable.  After lengthy discussions with Mary we agreed to a stylish look that would be acceptable to their corporate image”.

PHS embarked on installing the impressive Nexus range of bins, since this was the answer to WDT’s requirements.  Mary also removed the desk bins to ensure that all staff had to use the new recycling scheme.  A bit of a shock to the system but when Mary explained the benefits to the staff they all participated enthusiastically.

Today WDT are fully compliant with an outstanding image and programme of recycling that covers all of their waste that previously went to Landfill.  WDT are now recycling over 50% of their waste, a truly remarkable achievement.
