Driving Towards SafetyPHS Datashred has achieved accreditation by Transport for London’s Freight Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS) through their Cuffley depot, ensuring that London’s roads are safer for everyone. Datashred deserved the recognition for its implementation of driver training, safety awareness and compliance with the procedures outlined in the Operators’ Licensing Regulations.
FORS is a voluntary scheme run by Transport for London that is open to any company operating vans or lorries within the capital. Developed in response to the growing dependency by London on freight transport, FORS helps road freight operators become safer, more efficient and more environmentally-friendly, all benefits which can be passed on to their customers.
Datashred is one of the first companies in the UK to receive recognition by FORS, which was largely brought about thanks to PHS Datashred’s outstanding logistical capabilities in delivering its waste management and removal services. Datashred will be implementing the Group’s new transport policy across its 104 fleet of vehicles.
Following an initial three month trial of the scheme PHS Datashred saw a 33% improvement in its safety record score thanks to the initiative which is central to improving work related road safety.
Ian Walsh National Transport Manager for Datashred said, “To improve Road Safety performance, PHS Datashred have installed the 'Greenroad' driver profiling system into each of their vehicles across the country This system allows the company to monitor individual driver performance in real time, and provides regular feedback of their safety levels, both in weekly reports and during 'one on one' sessions between drivers and Senior Managers. This system has already contributed to fuel savings of around 7.43% and will further reduce costs as a result of fewer accidents.”
He continued, “The programme also provides PHS Datashred with financial savings by reducing overall insurance premiums. This saving can then be used to fund further training initiatives, including basic driving skills and incident assessment and reporting procedure courses.”
